Does Your Child Have a Loose Tooth? Here’s What To Do!

Is your child around the age of six? If so, then it’s only a matter of time until their baby teeth start to fall out. This happens when their adult teeth are ready to emerge, causing the root of their primary teeth to dissolve. That’s why it’s so important not to pull a tooth before it’s ready – it’s all part of the process! Plus, you don’t want your child to be scarred by the experience. After all, they have a lot more teeth to lose. With all of this in mind, keep reading to learn how to pull your child’s tooth loose the safe way.

How To Help Your Child’s Tooth Fall Out

If you were told that your teeth were going to start to fall out, you might feel a little scared too! That’s why you want to avoid anything that could hurt your child or traumatize them, like tying their tooth to a doorknob with a string and slamming it shut. Instead, encourage your child to wiggle it with their tongue or a clean finger. This will help it gradually loosen until it completely (and painlessly) falls out.

What To Do If Their Tooth Is Stubborn

If one of your child’s teeth is stubborn, do your best to be patient. Most of the time, the tooth will come out without needing to be extracted. If you’re worried because their permanent teeth are beginning to make an appearance (resulting in two rows of teeth), then give your child’s dental team a call. Over the phone, they can learn more about what’s happening and determine if they need to come in for an exam.

Don’t Hesitate to Ask Your Child’s Dentist for Help!

Parents often forget that their child’s dentist is there for more than just routine checkups; they are there to be an ongoing resource! If you have any questions about your little one’s oral health – from which toothbrush you should be using to what to do if their baby teeth aren’t falling out – don’t hesitate to ask.
